Coming to Autofocus points, the camera has 19 AF points, all of which are cross type so the camera can be more sensitive to details in the frame. The points are covering the center of the frame really well, however the edges are not entirely covered. The view finder in the 70D covers only 98% of the screen so you can’t fully control what comes in the picture. The automatic white balance system of the camera is also good and does an impressive job at shooting images while capturing sharp colors. The camera produces great bright colors but you can also adjust the picture settings if you are looking for warmer pictures. In daylight it’s capable enough to capture details in the frame and even in low light conditions the camera can produce relatively clearer pictures.
The camera can shoot HD 1080 videos at 30frames per second this means you can shoot great videos with this camera. It also has an external mic for audio recording while shooting videos. Canon 80D is a mid-level DSLR which is an upgraded version of Canon 70D. The camera has an all plastic body like its predecessor model and a nice button layout located at the tight side of the camera. There are buttons for Autofocus, drive and metering so that users can easily reach to these buttons while shooting. A control dial is present at the top of the camera so that switching between the various modes is easy.
The camera has a 3-inch articulating touch screen which is 1,040,000 dot which enables rich image quality. The touch screen makes it very easy to scroll through different features and alter various settings. Another big boon of the touch screen is that you can choose a certain Autofocus point that you want to zoom and the camera will do it for you. The screen has 24 Million Pixel sensor with a Digic 6 processing engine. The processor and sensor both enable sensitivity ranging from a normal range of 100-16000 to a high range of 25,600. The 80D has a burst rate of 7 frames per second with continuous shooting and burst depth has increased to 25 raw files or 110 JPEG images. The screen resolution is good and portrays bright and crisp images, however when working in darkness brightness may have to be increased for clear images with details.
The Live view mode works well and is a safe option for shooting still images for impressive results. Canon has also added Creative filters to 80D which can be accessed through the mode dial and can be used to add filters on your JPEG images. White balance system of 80D is also pretty impressive, it automatically adjusts itself according to the environment and delivers images with great results. Autofocus system has also been improved as the new model has 45 Autofocus points, all of them are cross types which means it has now become easier to focus on different points on the frame. There is also a quick menu option present in the camera which provides access to the features that are most commonly used while shooting. In addition, there is a “My menu” tab where you can assign 6 functions of your choice. We are not done yet Canon 80D also has a “Custom Function” which allows you to add nine controls of your choice for easy access.
Coming to another feature that interest most videographers and influence their decision of buying a DSLR is the video resolution. The camera can record full HD videos (1980 x 1020) at 50 frames per second, although there is no major update such as the 4K video in the 80D but a headphone port has been added to monitor the audio that is being recorded. It also has an external microphone port which also enables monitoring audio while shooting videos. Canon has added a Video snapshot feature that supports in making good quality short films. The camera also has WIFI and NFC connectivity which allows the camera to connect to a smartphone or a tablet. This enables easy transfer of images and videos to your smartphone which you can then easily share on internet with your friends. Canon 70D or 80D?
Canon has outdone himself in terms of features, specifications and image quality of both the cameras. Both the models provide features to attract the pros who can further experiment with the various features of these cameras. Canon 80D is an updated version of Canon 70D so it has slightly better features compared to its predecessor model. This is the key reason of the difference in their price range, Canon 80 being a higher priced option provides better features hence provides value for money in its price. Canon 70D is a relatively cheaper model that also has features that makes it worthwhile in its price range. Our verdict is clear, there is no best the two unless you are comparing on the basis of their prices.
